Rhonda Martin-McKenzie Specialist

In May of last year OSSR was lucky to hire new employee, Rhonda Martin bringing with her a unique skill set not often seen in OSSR employees.

Rhonda comes to us via Memphis, TN and Snohomish,WA where she cheered for the fighting Panthers. She returned to Memphis to attend Rhodes College and began her pathway to PT which led her back to the NW and UPS. When asked “Why PT?”, she laughingly responded, “I was a science nerd, liked anatomy and physiology but I also wanted to help people.” PT seems like a great fit!  In addition to being a physical therapist Rhonda is an accomplished photographer, specializing in weddings.  She even owned her own photography business for a while before deciding PT was where she wanted to devote her professional time.

This brings me to Rhonda’s unique skill set. She is currently the only McKenzie Certified Therapist in the company. While doing her student internships at Group Health she was exposed to the  McKenzie process of assessments and techniques During her first job out of college (also at GHC) she went  through the process of 4 levels of courses  and took the exam to become a Certified McKenizie Therapist. One reason Rhonda was attracted to the McKenzie protocols is that they seemed to “help patients become more involved in their own assessment and treatment ” and become more self reliant.  She notes the common misconception about McKenzie protocols is that it’s just extension exercises. People often believe these protocols are designed for acute low back pain but there are many therapists successfully using these assessment techniques to help cervical, thoracic, extremity pain and even Work Conditioners with chronic problems.
