Vern received his Bachelor of Science in Biology, Cum Laude, at Hope College in 1984, and his Masters degree in Physical Therapy from the U.S. Army-Baylor University program in 1986.  He has worked in a wide variety of clinical settings including acute inpatient/outpatient orthopedic, industrial rehabilitation, and chronic pain management. Vern is a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist with clinical expertise in the treatment of spine dysfunction.  After completing a four year residency program he became a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist in 2001. In 2002 he was accepted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists.

Vern serves as faculty at the University of Puget Sound of Physical Therapy doctoral program teaching introduction to orthopedic radiology for physical therapists and introductory cervical spine manual therapy techniques. He has also provided clinical education for numerous schools including the University of Southern California, the U.S. Army Baylor University Program, Creighton University, and the University of Puget Sound, just to name a few.

Vern has presented numerous continuous education courses on the affects of aging on the spine. He was also a co-author of “Etiology and Treatment of Fibromyalgia Syndrome” published in the Orthopedic Physical Therapy Clinic of North America in December of 1995. While in the Army he taught numerous injury prevention courses and was recognized by unit commanders as significantly cutting injury rates to critical units at Fort Lewis.

Vern is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, the Physical Therapy Association of Washington, the Orthopedic Section of the American Physical Therapy Association, and the North American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapists.
