Running Biomechanics

Making the Long Run

Stride Analysis

What to Expect

Your resolve is galvanized by each step; your body fortified with every stride. You are driven by an unquenchable thirst to go further.

Running Biomechanics

Biomechanics uses traditional engineering sciences to analyze bodies in motion to identify potential and existing running injuries. Not only does our board-certified sports specialist understand the mechanics of running, but also the reasons you are a runner.

Did you know

  • The difference of 4° of hip adduction can lead to IT Band Syndrome or Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome
  • Rearfoot Eversion or "foot pronation" is not predictive of Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome

Making the Long Run

The pain that galvanizes your resolve, can also be the injury that ends your run early. The truth is that 95% of all running injuries happen at the hip, knee and foot and 70% of runners try to "run through" their pain.Understanding and correcting your stride can help you go the distance.

Causes of hip, knee, foot and ankle pain are often interconnected, and related to irregularities a runner's stride. Often, these issues are not detectable without special equipment and advance training.

Hip Injuries

  • Bursitis
  • Groin Pain
  • Labral Tears

Knee Injuries

  • Iliotibial Band Syndrome (ITBS)
  • Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS)
  • Knee Osteoarthritis & Meniscus Tears

Foot & Ankle Injuries

  • Shin Splints
  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Plantarfasciitis

Stride Analysis

Our innovative biomechanics stride analysis system can help you reach your goals. Using next-generation motion analysis software and synchronized high-speed video cameras, we can precisely measure your hip, knee and ankle joints in full motion.

Prevention: Avoid Pain & Injury

You know that eating right and stretching are essential to a successful run. Catching issues before they become problems can save you expensive treatments and unnecessary pain.

Treatment: Improve Your Stride

A "tingle" can turn into chronic pain before you know it, and a "pop" can be a sign of more serious issues. Identifying movement patterns that may be causing your pain allows you to address the root cause.

What to Expect

Stride Analysis session last approximately 1.5 - 2 hours. For the best possible video, wear running shoes and clothes that allow visualization of key body landmarks. Women should wear running shorts or spandex with a sports bra. Men should wear running shorts without a shirt while running. Shoes that you don't run in, long basketball shorts and t-shirts should be avoided.
